VOLUNTEERING

 

Jersey Women's Refuge operates a 24 hour service.  The small team of Women's Support Workers' rely on trusted volunteers to support them in providing this service.  If you have a mature & caring approach and a real interest in helping people overcome a very difficult period in their lives, we would love to hear from you.  A non-judgmental attitude and good interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to speak good English are essential. 

 

Job Title: Volunteer

Hours: By arrangement

 

Purpose of the job: Support Victims of Domestic Violence.

 

Principle responsibilities:

Create a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Raise resident awareness of House Rules/Security/Fire Drill/Safety.

Give practical advice and support.

Liaise with various agencies.

Update and maintain records on a regular basis.

Promote personal and domestic hygiene.

To maintain a responsible, calm and caring attitude in difficult situations.

Have the ability to make decisions concerning the smooth running of the house and welfare of residents.

To assist clients with obtaining relevant information and liaise with other organisations and agencies in this respect.

To keep abreast of current legislation in order to provide accurate information.

To perform practical tasks as and when required.

Be willing to attend a training day workshop about the dynamics and effects of domestic violence (free for our volunteers click here for more details).

The ability to speak another language would be an advantage but is not essential.

 

We operate a 24 hour service so volunteers are required at various times during the day, evening, night duties and weekends depending on your availability.

 

Volunteers are required to be reliable and strictly abide by our confidentiality policy. A police check is also required to be undertaken; for this you would need to provide two forms of ID to include photographic ID & proof of address and the fee which is £20. 00. References will also be taken up, so please provide referee details. You can opt to be paid for night shifts & Bank holidays.  Therefore Bank details, social security no, tax reference & tax % are required to receive payment.

 

The next meeting dates to discuss becoming a volunteer (where you are required to have all the above information & documents) will be:

Sunday 26th February 2012, 11am - 1pm

Saturday 28th April 2012, 11am - 1pm
