GUIDED SUPPORT GROUP
The ‘LIFE’ course (Learning to Incorporate Freedom and Empowerment) is a 6-week guided support group created for female victims of domestic abuse. It is designed to enable women to break the isolation experienced as a result of being in a controlling relationship, through putting women in touch with each other to share experiences and knowledge.
The group provides encouragement to women to recognise they are not responsible for being on the receiving end of abusuive behaviour. The group will also enable women to identify the 'early signs' of such behaviour in order to avoid becoming involved in an abusive/controlling relationship in the future.
Focusing on re-building self-esteem and looking to a positive future is the overall goal of this initiative. Eight groups having completed the 6-week course since it was set up in 2008, since then the course has continued to develop and grow.
