4 Ladies 2 Challenges 1 Charity
Myself and three friends (Annette, Heidi and Clare) have set ourselves 2 swimming relay challenges this year.
We are booked in August to do the 'Round JerseyIsland' relay (aprox 41 miles) and in September the 'Jersey to France' relay (aprox 14-16 miles).
We all started sea swimming in 2009 and during the year our personal goals got bigger and braver. An example of goals were; get fitter, do a 30 min sea swim, swim from St Catherine's to Archirondel and back, and progressing to two and three hour swims.
One morning when the sea was too rough to swim, we met at St Catherine’s cafe for a cup of tea and started to discuss the goals that we had achieved. Someone at the table suggested doing the 'Round Island' relay, we all agreed to it (with not much convincing I might add) and before we knew it we had also booked the 'Jersey France' relay.
With the swims booked we turned our attention to training and choosing a local charity. As an all ladies relay team it seemed only fitting to choose the Jersey Women’s Refuge for the amazing support they provide women.
The Jersey Women’s Refuge promotes and provides a caring and safe environment where all woman who are suffering abuse along with their children, are welcome. The Refuge is a place where you are encouraged to realise your strengths and take control of your life. They also provide an outreach service where they support you in the community by offering the following:
-
Support you whether you are staying in or not at the Refuge;
-
Accompany you to other agencies, such as Income Support, Legal Aid or Housing;
-
Offer practical help with documentation;
-
Provide information, advice and emotional support;
-
Arrange free counselling sessions.
We hope to raise £2,500 and all donations received will go directly to the Jersey Women’s Refuge.
Thank you for your support.
